Chapter Summaries Post 2

PART II: REBORN

Chapter 7; LAZARUS

Darrow emerges from underground as he realizes that he has been buried, and is not dead. He is pulled out by the sons of Ares. Darrow is told by Harmony that the sons of Ares have a mission for Darrow.

Chapter 8; DANCER

Darrow meets dancer who is at a higher position of authority compared to the other reds. Dancer and Darrow play a game, and upon Darrow wining, dancer promises to show him something that no other red has seen. What dancer shows Darrow is a city and it causes Darrow to realize that the reds have been lied to.

CHAPTER 9; THE LIE

It is discovered that the other colors have inhibited mars for 300 years. As Darrow is shocked by all the lies, he agrees to take on the mission Ares has for him.

Chapter 10; THE CARVER

Darrow roams the streets of Yorkton with dancer and harmony, and takes a look at civilization for the first time. They approach Mickey (violet carver) to turn Darrow into gold.

Chapter 11; MAD

Mickey is reluctant at first to carve Darrow into a Gold. Dancer then tells Mickey about Ares's plan to make Darrow into a peerless scarred (top ranking of Golds) and command fleets, but in order to do so Darrow needs to go to the institute first. With some persuasion from Darrow, Mickey agrees to the carving. 

Chapter 12; THE CARVING

Darrow wakes up in his bed after dying twice due to the carving. Throughout the chapter as Darrow is carved on by Mickey, he associates a lot with Mickey and Evey. Once the carving was complete, Darrow began to train, mentally and physically. At the end of the chapter Darrow bids Mickey and Evey goodbye.

Chapter 13; BAD THINGS

Matteo (a pink) assists in finalizing Darrow's shift into a Gold. Darrow is then asked to change his name, but he wants to keep his name. So he then becomes Darrow au Andromedus from the far asteroid clusters; whose family all died in a shipping accident.

Chapter 14; ANDROMEDUS

Darrow learns the dances performed by Aureates, and how to ride a horse. While attempting horse riding, Darrow meets a girl with long golden hair.

Chapter 15; THE TESTING

After two months of training Darrow takes the test, during which he silently observes the Golds around him. During this time Darrow meets the very handsome and arrogant Cassius au Bellona who belongs to the Bellona family (the arch rivals of house Augustus). After the tests Darrow meets the girl he met while horse riding in the change room.

Chapter 16; THE INSTITUTE

Darrow has a surprise visit from the board of quality control, who then perform a lie detector test on him. It is revealed that Darrow only missed one question out of hundreds. Dancer gives Darrow a knife ring as reward for his great score on the test. Darrow is taken to the institute along with Sevro (a Bronzie) and Julian, during this time Julian and Darrow become friends.

Chapter 17; THE DRAFT

In this chapter, proctors who are all peerless scared and represent a house are introduced. Darrow is then chosen to be in the house of mars, and Fitchner is mars's proctor.

Chapter 18; CLASSMATES

Priam, Cassius, Antonia, and Darrow end up sitting close to each other at the end of the table. Sevro, Roque, Quinn, and Julian are also at the same table, but just not as high as the others. 

Chapter 19; THE PASSAGE

As a strategy of the institute, they beat up everyone and tossed them in an empty room with another boy. They did this so that only one would come out. Darrow was in the room with Julian, and he did what he had to.
